Tree pits, street beds and verges belong to the State of Berlin and are managed by the districts. On the „Berlin gärtnert“ platform the state describes the shared rules and links each district's page; which route applies in a given case is always decided by the district street and green space office.

Requirements and how to apply
In principle you must obtain the consent of the responsible street and green space office — some districts waive this for small tree pits, others require a form. Choose species that stay low so that traffic safety is maintained. Invasive species, deep-rooting plants such as lupins, water-hungry species such as rhododendron, tall shrubs, climbers such as clematis and ivy, and poisonous plants are excluded. With consent, sponsors take on permanent maintenance.
What you should know
There is no derivable URL pattern and no uniform name: the same undertaking is called tree-pit sponsorship, green sponsorship, bed sponsorship or mini garden depending on the district. We therefore keep a separate record for each of the twelve districts with the local office, the local route and the local rules. For Neukölln we state explicitly that there is no sponsorship offer of its own.
