Berlin subsidises greening roofs and façades on existing buildings. Green roofs receive 95 to 180 euros per square metre depending on substrate depth; façade greening receives 50 per cent of eligible costs, or 60 per cent when irrigation uses roof rainwater. Planning and consultancy costs are covered at 75 per cent, up to 15,000 euros.

Requirements and how to apply

Existing buildings inside the eligible area (densely built inner-city zones; check your postcode with IBB Business Team). Minimum areas: 100 square metres of vegetation for a green roof, 50 square metres for ground-bound and 10 square metres for wall-bound façade greening. The application is made on paper in two stages: preliminary application first, then the main application. Wall-bound façade greening qualifies only with partial irrigation from rainwater storage.

What you should know

Tenants cannot apply themselves; initiatives, associations and community centres may apply only with the owner's permission. The funding directive of 10 January 2026 is authoritative. The end of the funding period (31 December 2027) is stated in the Berliner Regenwasseragentur funding overview, not on the programme page itself.
