The street and green space office in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is the responsible authority for parks, playgrounds and street trees. Under „Xhain Gärtnert“ the district combines tree-pit planting and bed sponsorships; larger areas have their own coordination office.

Requirements and how to apply
Up to 15 square metres no permit and no form are needed. From 15 square metres the area counts as a bed sponsorship and must be registered with the coordination office for community gardening. Plants no higher than 70 centimetres, 0.5 metres clear around the trunk, no adding or removing soil, no climbers, raised beds, fences or tubs. Around 80 to 100 litres of water per week.
What you should know
The leaflets „Baumscheiben Bepflanzen“ and „Xhain Gärtnert“ are dated April 2026. Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is the only district with its own specialist office for community gardening — and with its own courtyard greening grant for tenants.
