The street and green space office in Mitte is the responsible authority for parks, playgrounds and street trees in the district. Tree pits may be planted without a permit under the heading „Bepflanze Deine Baumscheibe in Mitte“; the district provides a leaflet for this.

Requirements and how to apply
Plant no deeper than 10 centimetres, keep at least 30 centimetres clear of the trunk, and use only regionally native, insect-friendly species — no woody plants, climbers or grasses. A wooden edging up to 30 to 40 centimetres high is allowed. In summer allow for roughly 70 to 100 litres of water per week.
