The route

The loop begins and ends at Friedrichshagen S-Bahn station. Along Müggelseedamm it follows the northern shore towards Rübezahl, then circles the lake to the south via Müggelheim and back. 74 per cent of the route lies in woodland or on the shore, and 86 per cent is separated from motor traffic. The surface is mixed: asphalt on the north shore, gravel and patches of sand in the southern part.

There are only two sets of traffic lights over twenty-eight kilometres, but one main-road crossing without lights near Müggelheim, which is listed as a criterion. The Spree tunnel in Friedrichshagen is part of the loop and may only be crossed pushing the bike.

What you should know beforehand

The sandy sections on the southern shore are hard going on narrow tyres and not advisable with a trailer. No lighting, season March to October.
