The route

The loop starts at Johannesstift and runs through Teufelsbruch and Kuhlake to the northern city boundary at Eiskeller. From there it returns to the Havel and back via Hakenfelde to the starting point. With 94 per cent separated infrastructure and 90 per cent forest, this is the route in the starting set most thoroughly decoupled from motor traffic.

There is a single set of traffic lights and no crossing without them. The route is flat throughout and wide enough to ride two abreast — which is why this leisure loop meets the published children's criteria, even though eighteen kilometres is long for small children.

What you should know beforehand

Mostly gravel surface; after prolonged rain and in the winter half-year parts of the forest track are muddy, hence the April to September season. No lighting and no public toilet along the way.
