Along the Spree from Köpenick to Ostkreuz

Fourteen kilometres from the south-east into the inner city, mostly by the water. It is the main commuting axis of Treptow-Köpenick and also carries the hardest spot in the starting set: the tram rails in Oberschöneweide.

The route

From Köpenick old town the route follows the Spree bank and the edge of the Wuhlheide woods to Oberschöneweide. That is where the section lies which sets this route apart from a pure riverside ride: along Wilhelminenhofstraße you ride beside and partly on tram rails for some distance, with parallel parking on top of that. Both appear as criteria on this page because they change how you ride.

From Treskowbrücke onwards it calms down again: Plänterwald and Treptower Park are almost entirely separated, wide and flat. The final kilometre over Elsenbrücke to Ostkreuz returns to main-road level. In total, 68 per cent separated infrastructure, twelve sets of traffic lights and one main-road crossing without lights.

What you should know beforehand

The tram rails in Oberschöneweide are the critical point of this route in the wet; crossing them at a shallow angle is hard to avoid there.
