The route

From Alt-Tegel the loop runs along the Greenwich promenade to the lake and then into the Tegel forest. The western part via Konradshöhe and Tegelort is the calmest section; 68 per cent of the route lies in woodland or by water and 83 per cent is separated. The return leads via Saatwinkel and the Tegeler Fließ.

Four sets of traffic lights over twenty-one kilometres is few; the one crossing without lights lies on the link between forest and stream and is listed as a criterion. The Fließ section is narrow and shared with people walking.

What you should know beforehand

The ferry to Tegelort runs seasonally and is not part of the route described here; the loop closes without it. The path along the Tegeler Fließ is soft after rain.
