Through the Wuhle valley from Hönow to Friedrichsfelde

Eleven and a half kilometres almost entirely within the Wuhle green corridor, from the eastern city boundary to the Tierpark. One of the few commuting routes in the east that barely uses the carriageway.

The route

The route begins at the U5 terminus in Hönow and drops gently into the Wuhle valley. From the Hönow pond chain to the Kienberg hill it runs almost entirely through green space; 84 per cent of the length is physically separated from motor traffic and 58 per cent lies in parkland or meadow. The surface alternates between asphalt and gravel.

At Wuhletal S-Bahn and U-Bahn station the ride can be split; those continuing follow the Wuhle through Biesdorf-Süd to Friedrichsfelde. The one main-road crossing without traffic lights lies near Alt-Friedrichsfelde and is listed as a criterion on this page. With only four sets of traffic lights over eleven and a half kilometres the route flows unusually well.

What you should know beforehand

The Wuhle floodplain stands under water in places after heavy rain and during snowmelt, which is why the season is given as March to October. The green corridor is largely unlit.
