The Lise-Meitner-Haus of Humboldt University on the Adlershof campus links five institute buildings through green courtyards with around 400 running metres of facade greenery. Rainwater is collected in five cisterns and used for evaporative cooling of the buildings, largely avoiding a connection to the public stormwater sewer. The concept is complemented by green roofs, retention ponds in the courtyards and permeable paved surfaces. The university campus is freely accessible and the green courtyards and facades can be viewed from the paths, though the institute buildings themselves are open only to students and staff.
