About this place
The eco-settlement at Berliner Straße 88 in Berlin-Zehlendorf was planned back in the 1990s as a so-called zero-outflow settlement for around 450 residents. Rainwater is collected in cisterns with a capacity of around 650 cubic metres, cleaned and reused within the households. Surplus water is directed to a retention pond and planted soil filters for infiltration, so that no runoff reaches the public sewer. The settlement is a private housing estate; the retention pond and cistern system can be viewed from the estate's paths, but there is no public access to the buildings.
