In the Gärten der Welt park in Berlin-Marzahn, one of Germany's first tree infiltration trenches ("Baumrigole") built to the dimensioning rules of the DWA technical standard was created as part of the 2017 International Garden Exhibition. The installation channels rainwater from the surrounding area specifically into the root zone of a street tree, filters it through a water-bound surface layer and lets it infiltrate locally. The principle improves the tree's water supply during heat and drought and served as a reference for numerous later tree-trench projects in Berlin. The park is open to the public; admission is subject to a fee.
