About this place
As part of the climate-adapted redevelopment of Gendarmenmarkt square in Berlin-Mitte, six underground retention basins with a total capacity of around 480 cubic metres, along with infiltration shafts and drainage channels, were installed. This retains and infiltrates much of the square's rainwater on site instead of letting it flow into the sewer system. The historic square was also redesigned to be barrier-free. Gendarmenmarkt is a public square and freely accessible at all times.
