In the 1990s the WeiberWirtschaft cooperative converted a commercial courtyard on Anklamer Straße along ecological lines and still runs it today as a centre for women founders and entrepreneurs. According to its own account, the greening concept includes unsealing the courtyard, planting on open spaces, roofs and façades, and nesting aids for birds and insects. Rainwater is stored and used for flushing toilets through separate pipes. A solar installation, a combined heat and power unit and low-impact building materials complete the picture. Around 70 businesses now work on the roughly 3,900 square metre site.
