Accessible outings

Whether you have a pushchair, use a wheelchair or have a child who finds crowds and noise hard: access often decides whether an outing works. That is why hauptstadt.net shows each feature separately, and only when it is documented.

Reading features one by one

  • Pushchair access is not the same as wheelchair access. “Pushchair access”, “Step-free access” and “Accessible toilet” are separate details. We do not use a single “accessible” label.
  • If a feature only applies to part of a place, such as the café, this is stated. The filters do not count such partial details.
  • Low-sensory times are only listed with a specific time slot, meaning a day and a time.
  • A missing detail does not mean the feature is missing. Ask the place directly.

By bus and train

BVG publishes service and lift disruptions for the U-Bahn, trams, buses and ferries. According to VBB, the VBB journey planner shows information on lifts that are out of order with every journey search, and its fully step-free route search takes lift outages into account. VBB also states that every bus in Berlin has marked spaces for wheelchairs, pushchairs and walkers.

If you feel unsure using buses and trains because of limited mobility, you can request the VBB Bus & Bahn escort service. According to VBB it is free; you need a valid ticket.

Checking this information is not a safety certification.
