Lowering heating costs in a rented flat

This page explains options and names sources. It is not legal, funding or energy advice. Whether something applies to your building or contract should be checked with an advice centre or the responsible authority.

Lowering heating costs in a rented flat. According to the Senate department for energy, the Berlin consumer advice centre offers free energy advice in its advice centres, by phone or as a home visit in a rented flat; appointments via 0800 – 809 802 400 [3]. Its energy law advice covers electricity and gas bills, price increases, contract termination and switching suppliers [1]. Offers in Russian/Ukrainian and in Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish are also listed [1]. For a federally funded energy consultation for residential buildings (BAFA), tenants are eligible only “if they have received written permission from the owner” [2]. Questions about the tenancy itself are tenancy-law questions and are not answered here. Next step: request free energy advice from the consumer advice centre (0800 – 809 802 400) [3].
