Plug-in solar on the balcony. According to the State of Berlin's SolarZentrum, since October 2024 tenants and flat owners must still obtain the consent of the landlord or owners' association, but consent “can no longer be refused as easily as before”; a refusal must be justified in each case [1]. Plug-in devices may be used up to an inverter output of 800 W; since 1 December 2025 a standard allows many devices to be connected with a normal plug if the inverter feeds in at most 800 W and module output does not exceed 960 W [1]. No building permit is needed under § 62 of the Berlin building code, except for listed buildings and high-rises; the device must be registered in the Marktstammdatenregister [1]. Provider-independent energy advice on heating, solar energy, insulation and building services. According to the Verbraucherzentrale, advice at its advice centres, online and by phone is free of charge; a home visit is possible where needed, with a personal contribution. Berlin-wide, free hotline.

SolarZentrum Berlin – solar advice
Independent, product- and manufacturer-neutral advice on photovoltaics, solar thermal and heat pumps — according to SolarZentrum, for building owners as well as tenants. The basic consultation is free of charge and only available for properties in Berlin.
